Doneori Oreum Soil Restoration Project, Jeju
A case of applying moss-based restoration technology to soil that had not recovered even after a natural rest period, rebuilding the conditions for vegetation establishment.
Project Period2022.08 – 2022.11
LocationJeju-si, Jeju, South Korea
Project TypeEcological Restoration
PartnersAmorepacific, Innisfree Moyeom Foundation
Project Overview
Even after a period of ecological rest, vegetation recovery at Doneori Oreum remained slow. Code of Nature applied moss-based soil restoration technology to improve soil physicochemical properties and create the conditions needed for native vegetation to establish again.
Restoration Results
Restoration Results
- Confirmed recovery of soil physicochemical properties
- Improved soil pH from moderate to favorable range
- Increased available phosphorus by 1.5–2 times
- Approximately doubled organic matter, organic carbon, and total nitrogen
- Confirmed the soil foundation needed for native vegetation establishment
Improvement across key soil indicators means that the essential groundwork for vegetation recovery was formed first. This shows that stable settlement of native vegetation became more achievable, creating the conditions for natural recovery to continue over time.
