Donnery Oreum Soil Restoration Project

After restoration of Jeju Donnery ascent

Restoring Time: Donnery Oreum Reclaims Life

At Donnery Oreum in Jeju, heavy tourist foot traffic had caused uneven scoria distribution, leading to serious ecological degradation. In response, Code of Nature launched a soil restoration project using Mosby, a moss-based solution developed from native moss species.

To stabilize the displaced scoria layer and anchor the soil effectively, we selected native moss varieties with wide and deep root systems. These mosses played a vital role in helping Donnery Oreum regain its unique and safe ecosystem services.

This project marks the first case of applying a moss-based restoration solution to a damaged tourist site. It goes beyond basic soil recovery, achieving both landscape preservation and ecological stabilization. The Donnery Oreum restoration demonstrates that Mosby can be effectively used to recover not only soil, but also the natural beauty and ecological function of environmentally stressed tourist destinations.
